Plan of Leigham Court Road in 1868
This coloured section of this plan from 1868 shows the entire plot for the school grounds, including the full garden, as it was originally conceived.
It is thought that the building was completed in 1862 and many of the original trees are still here. Unfortunately, in 1910 most of the garden was lost to a part of the Dunraven School and what is now the Adare Centre was built behind the school. Only two original houses from this era appear to be left intact in this part of Streatham and inspecting the plans for this area available in the Lambeth Archives shows many grand estates leading off the Streatham High Road most of them many times bigger than this plot on Leigham Court Road. Streatham was indeed an extremely wealthy area in Victorian Times.
The building was built by Trollope & Colls, the well known civil engineering company now included in the Trafalgar Group and in fact we know that Mr Trollope lived in the building opposite number 55 which he built for himself. This is now used by the local Darby & Joan Organisation.
The school building was originally known as number 17 and was called 'Court Green' by the first owner. See the 1865-1888 page for further details.
