Aims of the School

The primary aim of the School is to provide a broad, yet balanced education which will equip the pupils with the necessary academic skills for entry into the independent secondary schools. All class groups are kept to typically 20, particularly in the Lower School where the staff:pupil ratio is generally no more than1:10.

Throughout the School there is a balance between formal and informal teaching methods, but as a rule, all morning sessions are taught formally. The School has high expectations of its pupils and it is each teacher’s aim to encourage and develop the very best that each child, irrespective of sex, race or ability, can achieve in the School environment.

We aim to create a family atmosphere where each child can feel secure in a friendly learning environment. Interaction between class groups and older and younger children is encouraged at appropriate times. We expect discipline to be firm but fair. Pupils are taught principles of right conduct, beginning with the simple rules of truthfulness, obedience and consideration for others.
